A unifying, repeatable Republican theme

The last effective theme in our memory was the 1994 Contract with America which resulted in a net gain of 54 seats in the House and 8 in the Senate. If the national Republicans can't come up with something similar this year, then you need to conceive a slogan for your own county or district. But first listen to Newt.

For those who need guidance (and that's all of us) please read Lee Carter's August 5 Fox News column , which brilliantly lays it out like never before. Greatest line from the article: "The winners had a sentence. The losers had a résumé."

We'll use this page to list potential themes for the Republican campaign effort. Hopefully someone on the national level is thinking of the same. Our objective is simply to offer ideas.

(Oh. And to have a place where we can write them down. Otherwise we'll quickly forget.)

Nobody says it better than Newt

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich got it right way back in 1994. We still remember the sight of about 150 House candidates assembled on the Capitol steps, each signing the ten-point Contract with America.
